What Is UKFR?

The UK's Gold Standard For Upholstery Safety

UKFR is the United Kingdom Fire Resistance Standard, which means that every piece of furniture has to pass fire safety tests set by UK law.  This law ensures that materials like leather, fabric and foam don’t catch fire instantly. Moreover, it allows fire to burn slowly and allows people to evacuate the place if a fire event occurs.

Why It Matters

Three Reasons UKFR Protects You

Safety First

High-density, fire-retardant materials prevent the rapid "flashover" effect often seen in non-compliant furniture.

Regulatory Compliance

For property owners, providing compliant furniture is a non-negotiable statutory obligation.

Trusted Quality

Many home insurance policies are void if a fire is found to have been accelerated by non-compliant, illegal furniture.

Our Promise

Residential vs Commercial Standards

Residential Use (Our Warranty)

Domestic Standards (BS 5852: Part 1): Designed for private homes where the risk of mass ignition is lower.

Who this applies to:

  • Private Homeowners
  • Private Landlords
  • Social Housing Providers

Commercial Use (Please Ask)

Commercial Standards (BS 7176 / Crib 5): Required for hospitals, hotels, and public buildings. These items must pass more intense "Crib 5" flame tests to account for higher foot traffic and increased risk.

Who this applies to

  • HMO Landlords
  • Care Home Operators
  • Office & Public Venues
